I must record how much I enjoyed the Chester and Wrexham Charity Heritage Bus Running Day yesterday (1st January). The organisers including Tim Hines, David Lee and all of their team are to be congratulated and thanked for their excellent hard work.
The day involved some 20 buses of various ages working well over 40 journeys running not only between Wrexham and Chester but a circular Barker Road route around Wrexham.
In addition to the joy being given to hundreds of participants the event raised money for a very worthwhile cause - the Nightingale Hospice. It was noticeable that apart from the numerous enthusiasts that visited from near and far there were many local people that got involved, some with their children. One magical aspect is to see people walking alongside the route taking a double look at the buses as they pass with obvious the interest and memories that must have been generated.
Some of my favourites of the day - all of which I managed to ride included:-
Driver Nigel Massey standing beside 60 year old DFG157 which spent most of its working life in Wrexham
Wallasey 1 (FHF451) which was the first produced Leyland Atlantean
Stagecoach 10560 (SN16 OOE) which travelled from Morecambe for this event. It was great that Stagecoach supported the day with two buses - the other being 11111 (SK68 LWE) from Gillmoss.
.Lloyds Coaches of Machynlleth BV73MLN brand new Volvo B8RLE / MCV eVoRa which will shortly be a regular on the T12.Andy Hamer's brilliantly restored Leyland National SNG588 (JTU 588T)
